Management buyout of Irish Ferries’ owner was approved by shareholders

FinanceAt an extraordinary general meeting 10 September, 79.2% of Irish Continental Groups shareholders, the owning company behind Irish Ferries, voted in favour of a management buyout.

Irish Continental Group CEO Eamonn Rothwell thereby got his GBP 1.2 billion management buyout bid approved. The bid required the approval of at least 75% of shareholders to go through and, while Irish Ferries’ management team which hold a 23.7% stake, were excluded from the vote.

The bid offers GBP 8 per share for the ferry company, representing a 28.2% premium on the company's closing price before the takeover approach was announced.

Eamonn Rothwell has led Irish Continental Group since 1992.
