Letter of Intent on financing for Jadrolinija fleet renewal
FerryJadrolinija has signed a Letter of Intent on investment preparation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, with the aim of supporting development and facilitating access to commercial capital for financing the renewal of the national shipping company’s fleet.
The signing followed several months of intensive cooperation with representatives of the IFC and the World Bank, during which the financing conditions for the investment program were defined in line with the company’s needs and development priorities.
This partnership represents an important step toward implementing the fleet renewal plan, and the signed Letter of Intent is a strong confirmation of the trust that international financial institutions place in Jadrolinija’s strategic development, Jadrolinija says in a statement.
Cooperation with the IFC and the World Bank will provide support for the transformation and modernization of the fleet, with a focus on sustainability, energy efficiency, and the green transition.
At the signing of the Letter of Intent, Robert Blažinovic, President of the Management Board of Jadrolinija, stated: “The signing of this Letter of Intent is an important milestone for Jadrolinija and confirms that we are on the right path toward achieving our goals. Cooperation with the IFC and the World Bank is strong proof of confidence in our strategy and an additional incentive for implementing our planned investments.”
He is supplemented by Marcelo Castellanos, IFC’s Senior Manager for Southeast Europe: “This partnership is an important step forward in advancing Croatia’s green transition. By supporting Jadrolinija, we are helping the country reduce CO2 emissions, strengthen sustainable infrastructure, and mobilize private capital to ease pressure on public finances.”
According to the company, which during the first eight months of 2025 transported 9.5 million passengers and 2.8 million vehicles, the focus is on acquiring double-ended ferries powered by biodiesel or dual-fuel systems, depending on the available technical solutions and financing models, as well as passenger vessels powered by alternative energy sources.
“The strategy includes implementing green technologies in line with national and European decarbonization goals for maritime transport,” the company tells the media Jutarnji.hr.
Jadrolinija’s fleet currently has an average age of 27.8 years, which is, they told the media, below the European average of 33 years. The company employs around 2,000 staff members, approximately 200 of whom are seasonal workers.
