RYGERLYS delivered to Rødne Fjord Cruise
FerryRødne Fjord Cruise has taken delivery of its newbuilding RYGERLYS from Norwegian shipyard Oma Baatbyggeri. The fully electric conventional catamaran ferry has been built for a new 10-year contract with Norwegian public transport company Kolumbus and Rogaland County.
The contract covers the year-round service between Lauvvik and Lysebotn at the head of the Lysefjord. RYGERLYS, which will operate the route throughout the year, has capacity for 97 passengers and 12 cars.
From May to September, the route attracts large numbers of tourists who combine the picturesque voyage through the Lysefjord with a drive along the Lysevegen road, which is only open to traffic during these five months of the year. During this period, the route is also served by a larger car and passenger ferry. This year, the service is operated by PETTER DASS, chartered from Boreal Sjø.
Rødne Fjord Cruise also has a 300-passenger electric-hybrid sightseeing catamaran on order at Oma Baatbyggeri. The newbuilding, which will be named RYGERSTRAUM, is scheduled for delivery in 2027.
