Italian ferry operator Blu Jet completes purchase of high-speed catamaran STAR
High-speedBlu Jet, the ferry subsidiary of Italian State Railways, has finalised the purchase of the high-speed catamaran STAR. The vessel, previously owned by a Croatian company, had been operating under a bareboat charter with Blu Jet for 18 months before the ownership transfer was completed.
Built in 2019, the 31-metre catamaran has a 9-metre beam and can carry up to 300 passengers. Powered by two MTU engines, it reaches a top speed of 34 knots.
The STAR has been successfully deployed on the busy Strait of Messina route, linking Villa San Giovanni on the mainland with Messina in Sicily.
