Intermarine Delivered SNAV POLARIS, The New High-Speed Ferry For The Gulf Of Naples
High-speedIntermarine Shipyard has delivered the new high-speed craft SNAV POLARIS to SNAV shipping company, to be used to increase crossings in the Gulf of Naples. Designed by the Intermarine research centre in Messina, with a length of 58.20 metres like its sister SNAV SIRIUS, which was delivered in July last year, the SNAV POLARIS.
Built entirely in lightweight aluminium like its sister SNAV SIRIUS, which has already been in service in the Gulf of Naples for a year, the SNAV POLARIS is equipped with a propulsion system consisting of four engines and three IMO III type-approved generators (Marpol Convention) for electronic combustion control, fitted with a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for significant emissions reduction.
The engines and the generators can also be powered with biofuel. The vessel also features a cold ironing dock socket for shore-to-ship energy supply, and can accommodate a hybrid propulsion system for zero-emission port entry and exit manoeuvres.
It is propelled by four Kongsberg Kamewa 71S4 hydro jets with a remote electronic control system, which ensure a significant reduction in noise levels both in the water and in the air and improved manoeuvrability. For optimal hydrodynamics in terms of speed and fuel consumption, the SNAV POLARIS is equipped with a four-fin stabilisation system and an interceptor system for trim correction in relation to loading conditions.
