Fred. Olsen Express had a strong summer
High-speedFred. Olsen Express facilitated the travel of 930,000 passengers during the months of July and August on its inter-island routes. In total, 430,000 people traveled with the shipping company in July, a 17% increase compared to 2024. While a record number of 498,000 passengers was recorded in August, representing a 13% increase compared to the previous year. In addition, 115,000 vehicles traveled with the shipping company during July, and 132,000 in August, for a total of 248,000 during both months.
Fred. Olsen Express Fleet Manager, Juan Ignacio Liaño, explains, "These figures demonstrate yet another year of the trust that both residents and visitors place in us when exploring our archipelago. For us, these results are the impetus that drives us to continue working on comfortable, flexible services available to all those who want to cross our seas to soak up the wonders of the islands."
In this regard, Liaño adds that "the growth compared to 2024 has been partly due to the launch of our new cargo service. By shifting part of the cargo to these vessels, we have been able to have more space on our fast ferries for the transport of passengers and vehicles, a particularly significant improvement on routes with high demand during these months, such as the Gran Canaria-Fuerteventura route."
During the month of July, passenger traffic increased significantly, driven by celebrations on the islands of La Palma and El Hierro. Coinciding with the five-year celebrations, the shipping company transported 49,000 passengers between Tenerife and La Palma, representing a 30% increase over the same period last year. This month also marked the first July with the route to El Hierro, which, coinciding with the Descent of the Virgin, facilitated the travel of more than 23,000 passengers.
In August, the most popular connections included the one between the capital islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, with 135,000 passengers; and the line between Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, which with 110,000 passengers continues to rank as one of the most popular summer destinations.
