Four operators to bid for Clyde contract
FerryTransport Scotland has invited four operators to tender for the Clyde Estuary's new £50m. Gourock-Dunoon ferry contract after the as yet un-named applicants passed the scheme's pre-qualification stage.
The contract, running from June 2017, specifies use of 40 metre vessels which substantially exceeds the length of catamarans used by current contract holder Argyll Ferries with the 2001-built ARGYLL FLYER measured at 29.9m while ALI CAT (1999) is 20.1m. They carry 249 and 244 passengers respectively on the 25 minute crossings.
Discussions are also underway between Transport Scotland and the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport over inclusion in the new Dunoon contract of the Kilcreggan ferry which links Gourock with the Roseneath peninsular.
