Fire on the STENA SPIRIT
FerryA fire broke out on the car deck of the STENA SPIRIT this morning at 8:30am, about half an hour before arrival at Gdynia, Poland.
The ferry was on a regular overnight crossing from Karlskrona, Sweden. The fire, which started in a truck, was detected by the crew at an early stage. Firefighting was commenced immediately and the crew of the ferry was able to extinguish the fire. Nobody was injured in the incidence. For safety reasons the master decided to evacuate the cabins and passenger areas, ordering all passengers to the sundeck.
The STENA SPIRIT, which was due to depart from Gdynia at 9am this morning has cancelled one round-trip and is likely to resume service tomorrow 1 September with the morning departure from Gdynia. STENA SPIRIT, ex STENA SCANDINAVICA -2011, was built in 1987. She can carry up to 1700 passengers and 460 cars.
