Fincantieri cuts steel for OCEANIA CRUISES’ first of two new cruise ships
CruiseThe steel cutting ceremony for OCEANIA SONATA, the new luxury cruise ship for Oceania Cruises - a brand of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. - took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera (Venice). The 86,000gt, 1,450-passenger capacity vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2027 and will be followed by a sister ship in 2029.
The event was attended by Harry Sommer, President & CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises, Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of the Merchant Ships Division of Fincantieri, and Marco Lunardi, SVP Marghera Shipyard.
OCEANIA SONATA, and her sister ship, OCEANIA ARIETTA, will be the most spacious and amenity-rich in the fleet, furthering Oceania Cruises' legacy of culinary excellence, destination-rich experiences, and refined luxury at sea.
The new vessel will be the first of the new Sonata class, a next-generation series building upon the highly acclaimed Allura class, praised for its elegance, sophistication, and build quality, with OCEANIA VISTA delivered by Fincantieri in 2023 and its sister ship, OCEANIA ALLURA, scheduled for delivery in July 2025.
