Ferguson Marine Faces New Delays and Cost Surge for CalMac Ferry GLEN ROSA
FerryThe nationalised Ferguson Marine shipyard has confirmed a significant delay of up to nine months for the delivery of GLEN ROSA, the second of two dual-fuel CalMac ferries, alongside another cost increase of up to GBP 35m, according to BBC Scotland News. This brings the total cost for GLEN ROSA and its sister ship GLEN SANNOX to over GBP 460m, more than 4.5 times the original contracted price in 2015.
GLEN ROSA, intended for CalMac’s Arran route, was originally due in July 2018 but is now expected to be "substantially complete" by Q1 2026, with delivery between April and June. The delay stems from resources being redirected to complete GLEN SANNOX, which was delivered in November 2024 after challenges with LNG pipework. Mr Thomson told BBC Scotland News the shipyard had put more focus on building its sister ship, GLEN SANNOX, during 2024 "at the expense of GLEN ROSA".
