Elb-Link to get new partner
Ferry As from December, German ferry operator Elb-Link, operating between Cuxhaven and Brunsbüttel, will team up with a German ship owner instead of Saaremaa Laevakompanii (Saaremaa Shipping).
The contract with Saaremaa, which had been finalized in summer 2015, expires in late November according to schedule. The new ship owner which is based in Jork just outside Hamburg has now announced to re-flag the two Elb-Link ferries to Madeira. This will enable him to employ German-speaking seafarers instead of the Estonian crews which had served on the Estonian-flagged MUHUMAA (“Grete”) and SAAREMAA (“Anne-Marie”) so far.
Furthermore, Elb-Link also aims at introducing a new booking system, which will be better adapted to the needs of online booking engines and smart phones. The re-flagging of the vessels is due to take place at the end of the year with the new booking system planned to be in operation in January 2017.
