Cumbrae ferry port set for major upgrade as new slipway project moves ahead
PortCaledonian Maritime Assets Limited has hired George Leslie Ltd to build a new slipway and upgraded passenger facilities on Great Cumbrae. The aging slipway will be demolished once the new one is complete. Plans include a traffic marshalling area, a new terminal building with staff and public amenities, and improved links for walking, cycling, and public transport.
Contractors will arrive on site 10 November 2025 for setup and ground investigations, with full construction expected to start in January 2026. Government funding of over GBP 12 million will support the upgrades, which aim to improve safety, resilience, and passenger experience on the busy Cumbrae–Largs route. CMAL, the Scottish Government, and George Leslie Ltd highlight community input, reduced disruption during works, and long-term benefits for residents, visitors, and businesses.
