Cokaliong Ferry gets more Japanese tonnage
FerryPhilippine-based Cokaliong Ferry (servicing 16 routes, mainly ex-Cebu, Philippines) has bought two ferries from Japan in 2016.
Early September the first ship has been phased in as FILIPINAS JAGNA.
A few days after Mr Cokaliong flew to Japan in order to finalize a deal for a close sister ship, the 1999-built Heartland ferry AVRORA OKUSHIRI.
Both ferries have been bought for PHP 200m each (€3.75m).
AVRORA OKUSHIRI will be delivered to its new owner in May 2017 when Heartland ferry gets its new ferry.
Mr Cokaliong said in the Cebu Daily News that there is more and more competition to buy second hand Japanese ferries since Japanese tend to favor fixed links. This means less new ships.
Also, the demand for secondhand Japanese-built ferries is big in Indonesia too.
