CHINJIF and JIFCO to resume Japan-China route following five-year absence

FerryChina-Japan International Ferry Co. (CHINJIF) and Japan-China International Ferry Co. (JIFCO), which operate the Osaka/Kobe (Japan)-Shanghai (China) route, announced that passenger transport between Japan and China will resume on 28 June 2025, following a more than five-year absence.

According to JIFCO, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, passenger transport between Japan and China has been suspended since 28 January 2020, and also due to significant delays in the renovation of the passenger terminal building in Shanghai, passenger transport has remained suspended up to today.

However, the renovation works have finally been completed, and passenger transport between Japan and China will resume on Saturday, 28 June, departing from Shanghai and arriving in Osaka on Monday, 30 June.

Currently, CHINJIF and JIFCO operate the 2024-built JIAN ZHEN HAO and 1994-built XIN JIAN ZHEN on the 674 nautical mile Osaka/Kobe (Japan)-Shanghai (China) route.

According to JIFCO, only JIAN ZHEN HAO will provide passenger service, while XIN JIAN ZHEN will be used as a freight ferry.
