Car volumes up 17 per cent at the Port of Gothenburg
PortThe Port of Gothenburg handled strong cargo flows across its rolling cargo segments during the first half of 2026, with new car volumes rising sharply and intra-European RoRo traffic continuing to grow, according to the port's volume report for the period.
Handling of new cars increased by 17 per cent to 144,000 vehicles between January and June. The rise covered traffic both within and beyond Europe, and around three quarters of the cars handled were export vehicles.
The port's intra-European RoRo traffic consists of trailers and other rolling cargo carried on ships with frequent departures to key logistics hubs in northern and central Europe as well as the United Kingdom. During the first half of 2026 the number of units handled rose by two per cent to 278,000, compared with the same period last year. The increase was driven above all by strong development on services to and from central Europe.
Cruise traffic also edged upwards, with 20 calls during the period against 19 a year earlier. Passenger numbers reached 585,000, an increase of one per cent.
