MED STAR could be heading to Creta Cargo Lines
FerryGreek media outlets report that Creta Cargo Lines has acquired the 1986-built ferry MED STAR. The 19,413 GT Japanese-built vessel has been laid up in Piraeus for an extended period since being sold by Inter Shipping to Northbay Transportes Maritimos in May 2024.
Inter Shipping operated MED STAR, which has had a varied history, between Algeciras and Tanger Med from 2018 to 2023. Delivered as QUEEN DIAMOND by Kurushima Dockyard to Japan’s K.K. Diamond Ferry, it was chartered to a Swedish company between 2013 and 2016 for services between the island of Gotland and the Swedish mainland under the name VASTERVIK.
Creta Cargo Lines has yet to confirm that it is the new operator of MED STAR. The company, which operates between Crete and the Greek mainland, currently has two RoPax ferries and three RoRo vessels, excluding MED STAR.
