Åland regional government and Finferries create joint company to develop the Åland archipelago traffic
FerryFinlands Färjetrafik Ab (Finferries) signed a letter of intent with the Åland regional government for the creation of a joint company that intends to operate traffic in the Åland archipelago. The new company will be called Ålands Skärgårdsrederi Ab and use the marketing name Axferries.
Åland's regional government owns 50% and Finferries 50% of the company's shares.
"The regional government sees great opportunities to develop and renew the Åland archipelago traffic together with Finferries. Their expertise in the green transition is also needed on Åland. This jointly owned shipping company will be a new start in Åland shipping that can work long-term for a climate-smart, stable and efficient maritime traffic," says Camilla Gunell, Minister for Climate and Infrastructure.
"Axferries' goal is to strengthen Åland sea traffic and the shipping industry and strive for archipelago traffic with zero emissions. We look forward to being able to work purposefully towards the common goal and contribute with the knowledge and experience we have regarding environmental work", says Håkan Fagerström, managing director of Finferries.
