Grimaldi strengthens its Brindisi-Igoumenitsa link

The Grimaldi Group now offer even more transport capacity and comfort on its connections between Italy and Greece after the Neapolitan company deployed the vessel EUROPALINK on the twice-daily Brindisi-Igoumenitsa service. It is the ro-pax with the greatest cargo capacity ever deployed in the Adriatic Sea. The new ship will join KYDON PALACE on the line where the Grimaldi Group offers two regular daily departures from each of the two ports.
Tersan Shipyard delivered Fjord1’s NORDDALSFJORD

The battery-electric ferry, NORDDALSFJORD, has been delivered from the Turkish Tersan Shipyard. Fjord1 will put it into service on the Eidsdal-Linge route.
The vessel has a length of 84.0 m and a 248-passenger and 80-car capacity. A sister ship, SUNNYLVSFJORD, was delivered in January this year, which serve the Stranda-Liabygda route.

The General Court of the European Union dismisses the actions regarding the financing of the Fehmarn Belt fixed link

The Fehmarn Belt fixed link project between Denmark and Germany takes the form, inter alia, of an immersed tunnel under the Baltic Sea between Rødby, on the Danish island of Lolland, and Puttgarden in Germany. The tunnel, which is approximately 19 kilometres long, will consist of an electrified railway line and a motorway. The Danish public entity Femern A/S is entrusted with the financing, construction and operation of the Fixed Link.

Myklebust secured an order for two new Torghatten Nord hydrogen ferries

Myklebust Verft just secured an order to build the two hydrogen powered ferries for the 3.5-hour long Bodø-Lofoten route that Torghatten Nord won the contract for more than two years ago.
The Norwegian Ship Design Company (NSDC) is behind the design of these 120-metre double-enders, which each will have a capacity for 120 cars and 599 passengers. They will operate year-round and will daily require 5-6 t hydrogen, and it is required that only “green” hydrogen is used.

The European Commission has opened an in-depth investigation to assess whether the public service compensation granted to Corsica Linea and La Méridionale for the provision of maritime transport services to Corsica between 2023 and 2030 is in line with EU State aid rules.

P&O Ferries reports major carbon emissions cuts in 2023

P&O Ferries has shared promising results from its new fuel and energy efficiency initiative following significant measures to reduce carbon emissions in 2023. The introduction of P&O Ferries’ new dedicated Fleet Support Centre for Fuel and Energy Efficiency, alongside the introduction of the new hybrid ferry P&O PIONEER, has contributed to a reduction of almost 50,000 tonnes of carbon emissions from the fleet during 2023.

Höegh Autoliners ASA - Sale of HÖEGH CHIBA and purchase of HÖEGH JEDDAH
Höegh Autoliners ASA, through its subsidiary Höegh Autoliners Shipping AS, has reached an agreement for the sale of the owned vessel HÖEGH CHIBA for a price of USD 61 million. The company has also declared an option to purchase the vessel HÖEGH JEDDAH from Ocean Yield for a purchase price of USD 43.2 million.
Majestic Fast Ferry begins construction of ten new second-generation Incat Crowther ferries

Singapore’s Majestic Fast Ferry Pte Ltd has commissioned Incat Crowther to design a new second generation 39-metre passenger ferry as the basis of its future fleet. Incat Crowther’s range with the PT Cahaya Samudra Shipyard covers four vessels lengths; 29-metres, 32-metres, 39-metres and 42-metres. All four designs are now in their second generation.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen declares options for four additional Shaper Class vessels

Wallenius Wilhelmsen has declared options to build four additional Shaper Class PCTC vessels. The 9,300 CEU methanol dual fuel vessels can utilize alternative fuel sources, such as methanol, upon delivery. They will also be ammonia-ready and able to be converted as soon as ammonia becomes available in a safe and secure way.

Ferry and travel portal FerryGoGo investigated the prices for various crossings this coming summer. They looked at the total costs, the distance, and the cost per kilometre. Fjord1 signed newbuild contract with Tersan Shipyard for four autonomously operated ferries

Fjord1 and Tersan Shipyard have signed a contract for four new zero (direct)-emission ferries to operate autonomously on the world's first autonomous ferry connection between Lavik and Oppedal from 1 September 2026 to 2034, with the possibility of extension for up to three more years.
First look at BC Ferries new Major Vessel concepts

Two conceptual renderings of BC Ferries’ New Major Vessels programme are the first look at what up to seven new ferries could look like when they enter operation for the company starting in 2029.
The new Major Vessels will carry up to 360 standard sized vehicles and 2,100 people, compared to a capacity of 250-310 vehicles and 1,200-1,500 people on retiring vessels.
