Eckerö Group invests further in energy optimization initiatives
FerryEckerö Group plans to install 120 solar panels onboard the company’s RoPax ferry FINBO CARGO. The installation is expected to contribute approximately 70 MWh annually to the vessel’s operations.
Eckerö Group has entered a contract with Åland-based Solel Åland, which will retrofit the solar panels onboard ahead of this year’s summer season. This was announced by Eckerö Group in connection with the group’s 2025 financial results.
The energy optimization retrofit of the 1,950 lanemetre and 366-passenger FINBO CARGO, which offers a more freight-oriented service between Vuosaari (near Helsinki) and Muuga (near Tallinn), follows in the wake of a major upgrade of Eckerö Line’s day-cruise ferry FINLANDIA, operating between Helsinki and Tallinn.
As part of this upgrade, the ferry is being converted to battery-hybrid operation in cooperation with Wärtsilä, which is expected to result in annual fuel savings of between 500 and 600 tonnes.
