Attica Group chooses Orbyt Global and Telenor Maritime for onboard connectivity

Orbyt Global and Telenor Maritime announced a significant milestone: a three-party partnership with Attica Group to provide passenger connectivity across their fleet. This includes Superfast Ferries, Blue Star Ferries, ANEK Lines, and Hellenic Seaways. Attica Group is the largest ferry operator in the world as per passenger capacity, operating more than 40 ships in the Mediterranean Sea.

Finnlines' Board of Directors appoints Thomas Doepel as new President and CEO

Tom Pippingsköld informed to Finnlines Plc's Board of Directors that he will retire, and it has been agreed that he will continue in his position as the President and CEO until 28 February 2025. Current COO, Thomas Doepel, will take over as the new President and CEO of Finnlines Plc from 1 March 2025.

Bridgepoint partners with Surikat, a SaaS provider of Supply Chain Solutions
Bridgepoint has announced its partnership together with the CEO and founder of Surikat, a provider of software solutions for the maritime and logistics sectors. The investment was made via Bridgepoint Growth II (BG II), its small-cap fund focused on supporting the continued global growth of dynamic, rapidly growing businesses across Europe and North America.
Gotlandsbolaget invests in biogas production and secures volumes for the Gotland traffic

Gotlandsbolaget aims to offer climate-neutral crossings between Gotland and the mainland by 2045 at the latest. Achieving this goal requires large volumes of fossil-free fuels. Through an investment in the construction of a biogas plant and agreements for the purchase and delivery of biogas, important steps are now being taken to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the Gotland traffic.

Baleària adds three weekly departures to Algeria with its new route between Valencia and Oran

Baleària continues to expand its connections to Algeria with a new route that will link the port of Valencia with the port of Oran from 18 December. The company continues to diversify its operations with the North African country, and now has three weekly departures to Algeria: Valencia-Mostaganem (which has been operating since 2016), Valencia-Algiers (which began operating in October) and this new Valencia-Oran route.

Eastern Pacific Shipping and Nysnø invest in maritime charging and shore power provider Zinus
Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping Ventures (EPS Ventures) and Norwegian state-owned Nysnø Climate Investments have jointly invested NOK 50 million in Zinus, a supplier of maritime charging and shore power solutions.
The current shareholders—LOS Gruppen, Eviny Ventures, and DSD—will retain their full ownership stakes and continue to provide strong support for the company’s vision and growth journey.
Stena Line seeks to secure alternative Irish Sea crossings as storm-damaged Holyhead Port remains closed

Stena Line is continuing to work at pace to try and secure alternative Irish Sea ferry crossings as the closure of Holyhead Port enters a second week, following storm Darragh damages. Freight and passenger traffic on the busy Dublin-Holyhead route has been severely impacted following the closure of Holyhead Port on 7 December. It has been announced that Holyhead Port will not be reopening for ferry services until at least 15 January 2025.

Torghatten is rebranding the shipping companies in the group, and all three will henceforth operate under the same name: Torghatten. In this regard, Bastø Fosen will also change its legal name to Torghatten Sør in January.
The Torghatten Group consists of the shipping companies Bastø Fosen, Torghatten Midt and Torghatten Nord. Torghatten has around 90 vessels and 1,200 employees, operating 50 ferry and express boat routes in Norway. Every year we transport 12 million passengers and 6 million cars.
DFDS charters STENA VINGA for its upcoming Jersey service

DFDS revealed that STENA VINGA has been chartered for its upcoming Jersey service that will commence on 28 March 2025 and last for 15 years.
DFDS has committed to similar ticket prices to now plus RPI for next year.
Also part of the contract is:
- Greater frequency of ferries to the UK and France in peak periods
- Faster ferries to the UK
- Three new ferries within the next six years
- Two dedicated high-speed ferries for the summer
New Major Vessels project reaches milestone with BC Ferries Commissioner application

BC Ferries has now formally submitted its plan to build five New Major Vessels (NMVs) to the BC Ferries Commissioner. If approved, this project would be the largest capital investment in the organization's history, increasing ferry capacity, resiliency, and reliability for BC's coastal communities and economies.
The New Major Vessels (NMV) project is a complex, multi-year, capital program that proposes to deliver up to seven new vessels by the mid-2030s to service BC Ferries' busiest routes, addressing the urgent need to replace aging vessels and address capacity constraints, prepare for future growth, and improve overall system resilience. Each vessel will be capable of carrying up to 2,100 passengers and 360 vehicles.
San Francisco Bay Ferry agrees to purchase battery-electric ferries from All American Marine

San Francisco Bay Ferry's Board of Directors authorized the purchase of the nation's first three battery-electric, zero-emission passenger ferries from All American Marine Inc. (AAM) after a competitive bidding process.
The three 150-passenger vessels will be the first delivered as a part of SF Bay Ferry's Rapid Electric Emission Free (REEF) Ferry Program, a transformative suite of projects to transition the agency's fleet to zero-emission propulsion technology. The first ferry is expected to join the SF Bay Ferry fleet in early 2027.
FRS takes over Rhine ferry Maul between Ingelheim and Oestrich-Winkel

The Flensburg-based shipping company FRS has taken over Rheinfähre Maul GmbH. The Rhine ferry, an essential link across the Rhine between Ingelheim and Oestrich-Winkel since 1968.
With the takeover of the Rhine ferry Maul, FRS is laying the foundations for long-term development on the Middle Rhine. By identifying and utilising operational synergies, the shipping company plans to further improve the infrastructure and make a contribution to sustainable mobility. This also includes the gradual integration of innovative technologies to drive forward the decarbonisation of ferry transport.
