Vehicle deck fire on board GOLDEN BRIDGE
FerryOn the morning of 6 March at 6:30 a.m., a fire broke out in a reefer trailer on the vehicle deck of A-Ships Management’s GOLDEN BRIDGE, currently on a long-term charter to GNV. The 26,526 GT ferry, carrying 169 passengers and 46 crew members, was at the time about 50 nautical miles off Palma de Mallorca, where it was sailing from Barcelona.
A major response operation was launched, coordinated by the Palma Coordination Centre, which dispatched a helicopter and two rescue vessels to GOLDEN BRIDGE’s position.
However, the ferry’s crew managed to extinguish the fire themselves, although it caused heavy smoke development. As a result, around 15 people were treated for smoke inhalation after GOLDEN BRIDGE arrived in Palma de Mallorca under its own power.
