Stena Line report stable start to 2026 on the Gothenburg–Frederikshavn route
FerryNew booking figures for the Gothenburg–Frederikshavn route show an increase in travel this spring. In January, Stena Line is 12 per cent above volume compared to the same period in 2025.
"We do not see a rapid return to previous levels, but a stabilization. More people plan their trips well in advance and choose solutions that feel safe and simple. It is a cautious but important shift," says Ulf Staaff, Travel Commercial Manager at Stena Line.
At the same time, Stena Line sees continued strong travel from Denmark with a focus on winter sports. For the third year in a row, the company is breaking volume records for the ski season, thanks to the successful collaboration with SkiStar.
In parallel with the market development, Stena Line has continued to invest in improvements to the customer experience. During the year, the focus has been on developing digital tools that make booking, planning and travel smoother – both before and during the trip. The work is part of a long-term commitment to meet changing customer needs and make the journey an integral part of the experience. In the long term, and based on the first months of the year, Stena Line therefore sees continued strong development.
"Our focus has not been to wait for the market, but to step by step improve what we can influence ourselves. Through clearer digital solutions and a continued focus on service, we want to make it easy to travel, even in times when many people are more thoughtful in their choices," says Ulf Staaff.
Stena Line currently operates two ferry routes between Sweden and Denmark: Gothenburg–Frederikshavn and Halmstad–Grenå. The ships offer restaurants, shopping, playgrounds and the opportunity to take your car on holiday.
