SPIRIT OF TASMANIA I and II offered on the second-hand market
FerryTT-Line Tasmania has told Australian media that its two current operational ferries, the 1998-built SPIRIT OF TASMANIA I and SPIRIT OF TASMANIA II, each have a book value of AUD 50 million. It is further stated that the vessels have been offered on the second-hand market through international brokers for several months.
The company expects to deploy its two newbuilds, SPIRIT OF TASMANIA IV and SPIRIT OF TASMANIA V, in October this year, once the construction of a new berth in Devonport is completed. The two new vessels, each of 47,994 GT, were delivered from RMC in Finland in 2024 and 2025 respectively but have had to be laid up due to the new and larger ferry berths in Devonport not yet being completed.
SPIRIT OF TASMANIA IV is anchored off Geelong, while SPIRIT OF TASMANIA V is laid up alongside a quay in Leith, Scotland. SPIRIT OF TASMANIA I and SPIRIT OF TASMANIA II were originally delivered by Kvaerner Masa in Finland to the Attica Group’s Superfast Ferries brand and were sold to TT-Line Tasmania in 2002 for USD 76 million each.
