Remontowa delivers electric ferry BJARKØY to Torghatten
FerryOn 18 March, Stocznia Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A delivered the electrically powered BJARKØY to Torghatten Nord AS. Construction of the vessel began in May 2024. BJARKØY is equipped with two azimuth thrusters fitted with vertically mounted electric motors, powered by batteries with a total capacity of approximately 2.3 MWh.
As a backup, BJARKØY is equipped with two generator sets that ensure full operational capability in the event of a loss of battery power. Under normal operation, the batteries will be recharged from the shore grid during loading and unloading.
This will occur frequently, as a single crossing will last no more than 12 minutes. The ferry was built based on a design developed by The Norwegian Ship Design Company AS, with support in the preparation of working documentation from Remontowa Marine Design & Consulting, part of the Remontowa Holding group.
