Öresundslinjen reported strong growth in 2025
FerryIn 2025, more than six million passengers and more than a million cars chose Öresundslinjen’s ferries for their trip across the Sound. 6,373,842 passengers – of which 3,363,377 were pedestrians – ensured another year of growth on the route.
2025 was a year of growth for the ferries between Helsingør and Helsingborg – and by far the best year in the time after Øresundslinjen became part of the Danish shipping company, Molslinjen.
In particular, the number of passengers has increased. In 2025, 6,373,842 passengers chose one of their three ferries – two of them powered by electricity from batteries and the third just converted to electricity. This is approximately four percent more than in 2024, when 6,133,827 total passengers were on board.
The number of passenger cars has also increased by two percent to 1,036,897 compared to 2024. This is the highest number of passenger cars since 2019.
"This is a clear progress that we can be satisfied with, and there is no doubt that the results of the hard work with the digitalization of our systems are now showing," says Molslinjen's CEO, Kristian Durhuus.
3,363,377 passengers made the trip on foot in 2025. This is the third highest number since the opening of the Øresund Bridge in 2000 and seven percent more than in 2024, when the number was 3,140,143.
"Here, it is our focus on the experience on board that the travelers reward us for. The renovated ferries with new restaurants and, of course, our conversion of operations to green electricity," says Kristian Durhuus.
Most travelers use the ferries as a kind of floating metro, but some of the foot passengers are also those who "tour" – i.e. stay on board and sail back and forth while staying in restaurants and bars. There will have been more than 200,000 restaurant guests in 2025 alone – an increase of as much as 27.15 percent compared to 2024.
