July was just one downpour short of hitting the million-passenger mark, with a total of 995,522 travellers recorded. This represents an increase of 18,176 passengers (approximately 1.9%) compared to the 977,346 who travelled in July last year.

“We can clearly see that the weather impacts interest, particularly among foot passengers who enjoy spontaneous trips to Sweden. So, just one fewer cloudburst, and we would have surpassed a million passengers that month,” says Molslinjen’s CEO, Kristian Durhuus.

Not since the summer of 2022, right after Covid restrictions eased, have the ferries seen such high numbers. Back then, 1,034,757 passengers travelled, which remains higher than this year’s figure but marks a significant recovery from last year’s July total.

Both foot and vehicle passengers contributed to July’s growth, with each category rising by roughly 9,000 compared to the previous year. The number of personal cars increased by 4% to 158,764—the highest since 2022.

Restaurant Record

The onboard restaurants on the ferries AURORA and TYCHO BRAHE also welcomed a surge of guests over the summer. July set a new record with an impressive 21,030 diners—exceeding the Christmas bookings for December 2024 and nearly 11% higher than in July last year.

“We’re ahead year-to-date compared to last year, and we’ve had a brilliant start to August, so we’re absolutely optimistic about the rest of the year,” concludes Kristian Durhuus.
