Not a Merry Christmas for CMAL and CalMac as two newbuilding ferries – GLEN ROSA and ISLE OF ISLAY - are further delayed
FerryCMAL's hopes for pre-Christmas delivery of the first of four new RoPax ferries from Turkey's Cemre shipyard—ISLE OF ISLAY—have been dashed, with arrival now pushed to early 2026. Separately, Ferguson Marine's CEO Graeme Thomson announced a six-month delay for the second LNG hybrid ferry, GLEN ROSA (for CalMac's Arran route), to Q4 2026.
Initial drydocking revealed stern tube corrosion and hull coating deterioration on GLEN ROSA, extending remedial work to four weeks and delaying LNG commissioning, trials, and sea trials until late 2026. A review also uncovered integration issues in system installation and commissioning, adding to the setback. The yard is assessing cost impacts.
