North Sea Handling to supply cargo/passenger access equipment for New Zealand's new Cook Strait ferries

FerryNorth Sea Handling AS has, through its subsidiary NSH Ships Equipment AS, been awarded the contract to equip Ferry Holdings Limited's two new rail/RoPax ferries, being built by Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), with state-of-the-art cargo and passenger access equipment.

The Cook Strait Ferry Replacement Programme is being delivered by the New Zealand Government through Ferry Holdings Limited (FHL). The company was established in 2025 to deliver one of New Zealand's most significant transport infrastructure programmes: the replacement of the Cook Strait ferries.

The NSH scope of supply includes a wide range of equipment for the handling of cargo, trains and cars/trailers, as well as passengers.

FHL Ships Programme Director Massimo Soprano says that having North Sea Handling AS on board gives them the confidence that freight and passengers will have a safe and efficient experience embarking and disembarking the new vessels.

"NSH's involvement in this project began several years ago, and we are very proud to now be part of its realisation together with GSI and FHL. We are grateful for the collaboration and very much look forward to seeing the project move forward," says Adam Bengtsson, Senior Advisor and Partner at NSH.
