Norsepower announced its third-generation Norsepower Rotor Sail
The system combines aerodynamic, digital, and structural improvements to increase fuel savings and operational efficiency while reducing lifecycle costs. It features Norsepower Wind Edge technology, which improves aerodynamic performance by 10–20% depending on the sail model and produces higher thrust.
The sails come in standard diameters of 4 m and 5 m, with adjustable heights to fit vessel design and enable larger sail sizes.
The system uses the Norsepower Sentient Control (NPSC) system, which optimizes performance based on direct sail force measurements along with data on wind conditions, rotor speed, propulsion forces, and fuel consumption. This approach delivers up to 20% better operational performance than conventional control methods.
It also includes performance reporting and monitoring functions.
The design draws on more than ten years of operational experience with rotor sails.
