Revised plan for Molslinjen’s two new electric ferries from Cemre
FerryMolslinjen’s previously announced schedule for the introduction of its two new electric ferries, NERTHUS and TYRFING, has once again been revised. NERTHUS, the first of the two double-ended ferries with capacity for 600 passengers and 188 cars, was delivered with delays from Cemre Shipyard in May this year.
It was temporarily deployed on Molslinjen’s Kalundborg-Ballen route (between Zealand and the island of Samsø in the Kattegat). The plan was for TYRFING to replace NERTHUS on this route in September, allowing NERTHUS to begin operations on its permanent Fynshav-Bøjden route (southern Denmark) on 1 October.
That route is currently served by the 1984-built FRIGG SYDFYEN (335 passengers / 46 cars). Molslinjen has now informed the regional Danish newspaper Fyens Stiftstidende that TYRFING’s delivery voyage from Turkey to Denmark is expected to start around 20 October.
The vessel will then undergo final preparations at a yard before entering service on the Kalundborg-Ballen route, with operations expected to commence on 1 December. As a result, FRIGG SYDFYEN will continue serving the Fynshav-Bøjden route for several more months, Molslinjen told the newspaper.
