BLUE STAR CHIOS back in service with SOx scrubbers
FerryAfter being out of service for three months at the ONEX Elefsis shipyard, the 13,955 GT BLUE STAR CHIOS has returned to service with an enlarged funnel construction housing exhaust gas SOx scrubbers. Unlike some other ferry conversions which have radically changed the exterior appearance, the Attica Group have tried to keep the distinctive funnel shape while masking the significantly larger area.
The 2007 Elefsis Shipyard-built compact RoPax, BLUE STAR CHIOS, is equipped with four Wärtsilä 12V38 main engines with a combined 31,680 kW output, sufficient for a maximum speed of 26.5 knots.
With no spare space in the compact engine room or narrow casing for the scrubbers, the only alternative was to enlarge the funnel volume to house the scrubbers. The vessel serves the Piraeus–Southern Aegean islands route.
