The new route was launched on 6 July in Gdansk, while the ceremony on 12 August 2026 in Karlshamn marks its official inauguration on the Swedish side. The route creates a new transport and tourism gateway between Poland and southern Sweden. For travellers from Poland, it provides convenient access to southern Sweden, as well as easy connections to Denmark and southern Norway. For residents of Sweden and other Scandinavian countries, it offers a direct route to Gdansk and the Pomerania region, and further on to Poland and other European countries. The connection is important not only for tourism, but also for transport and economic exchange between Poland and Scandinavia.

The route has been designed to meet the needs of passengers travelling by car, families and cyclists, as well as hauliers and business customers. With a crossing time of approximately 13 hours, passengers can board in Gdansk or Karlshamn in the evening and begin their journey on the other side of the Baltic Sea the following morning.

The ceremony was attended by, among others, Caroline Säfström, CEO of the Port of Karlshamn; Her Excellency Karolina Ostrzyniewska, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Kingdom of Sweden; members of the Management Board of POLSCA Baltic Ferries – Pawel Pluto-Pradzynski, Jakub Lasota and Piotr Redmerski; Magnus Gärdebring, Chair of the Executive Board of Karlshamn Municipality; and Mats Olausson, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Port of Karlshamn.

The Karlshamn–Gdansk route is operated by SKANIA and COPERNICUS, The new route complements the POLSCA Baltic Ferries network, which also includes services from Gdansk to Nynäshamn and from Swinoujscie to Ystad and Trelleborg. As a result, POLSCA Baltic Ferries connects Poland and Sweden on four routes, giving passengers and freight operators a wider choice of connections between the two countries.

The launch of the route marks another stage in the development of POLSCA Baltic Ferries – a joint project of Unity Line, Polferries and EuroAfrica aimed at strengthening the position of Polish ferry operators in the Baltic Sea and developing a modern network of connections between Poland and Scandinavia. The new route strengthens cooperation between ports on both sides of the Baltic and creates new opportunities for tourism, transport and economic exchange between Poland and Sweden.
