NERTHUS out on sea trials
FerryDanish Alslinjen’s delayed new electric ferry NERTHUS has finally been out on sea trials at the Turkish Cemre Shipyard. NERTHUS and its sister TYRFING, destined for Samsølinjen, were initially planned to be put into operation in late summer 2024 and at the beginning of 2025, respectively.
The OSK Design-designed all-electric NERTHUS has battery capacity of 3.1 MWh and is destined for the Fynshav-Bøjden route.
TYRFING will have a slightly larger battery pack with a 3.8 MWh capacity and will serve the Ballen-Kalundborg route in Denmark.
Both ferries will be prepared for autonomous sailing between ports – with automatic docking and charging at the quay. The Echandia batteries will be fully charged in 20-25 minutes.
NERTHUS and TYRFING will be 116.8 metres long, have a capacity for 600 passengers and 188 cars.
Cemre is also building the FUTURA for Scandlines, which has also been out on sea trials recently. More on that here https://www.shippax.com/en/news/construction-of-scandlines-zero-direct-emissions-ferry-futura-has-entered-the-final-phase.aspx
Closest to delivery though is the HINNØY for Torghatten Nord, which is expected to leave the yard at the beginning of this month. More on HINNØY here https://www.shippax.com/en/news/cemre-shipyard-launched-battery-operated-hinnoy-for-torghatten-nord.aspx
Cemre is also building the ISLE OF ISLAY, LOCH INDAAL, CLAYMORE and LOCHMORE for Caledonian Maritime Assets/ CalMac Ferries, all of which are affected by the yard delays.
