Kosoku Marine Transport sells former Shin Nihonkai ferry for recycling
FerryJapan’s Kosoku Marine Transport KK has sold the 1996-built RoPax HAKUOU for recycling.
The 17,345 GT HAKUOU arrived on 24 September at an anchorage off the shipbreaking beach at Chittagong, Bangladesh, under the name HAKU and flying the Comoros flag.
Originally delivered by Ishikawajima Shipyard to Shin Nihonkai as SUZURAN, the ferry served the 526-nautical-mile Tomakomai–Tsuruga route. In 2012, it was replaced by a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries newbuilding, also named SUZURAN.
Most recently, Kosoku Marine Transport KK operated HAKUOU under a contract with Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force.
