Kiel inaugurates SCA terminal
Ro-roThe port of Kiel on November 11 inaugurated a new RoRo terminal dedicated to the Swedish operators SCA (Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget) and Iggesund Paperboard AB (Holmen Group). Dr. Ulf Kämpfer, mayor of the city of Kiel, praised the new Ostuferhafen terminal as another milestone in the development of the port of Kiel.
The port hopes to handle 850.000 tons of high-quality paper products annually in the new forest products and logistics centre, adding paper distribution on a larger scale to the portfolio of the German port. The new terminal had been built within a year in the northern part of the Ostuferhafen area. The overall investment was worth 25 MEUR and created 80 new jobs, 60 of which directly at the port of Kiel.
Since early October, SCA's RoRo vessels SCA OBBOLA, SCA ORTVIKEN and SCA ÖSTRAND are calling at Kiel on Mondays and Saturdays on their way from Sundsvall.
