Historic passenger record on the Canary Islands
FerryFred. Olsen Express closed 2025 with a historic record of 4 million passengers transported - the highest figure ever recorded by the company in a single year. Overall, it increased the number of people and vehicles carried by 10% compared with the previous year, surpassing one million vehicles.
In 2025, the company celebrated the first anniversary of its route between El Hierro and Tenerife, which began operating on 31 December 2024. The route was launched to strengthen the company’s commitment to connectivity in the Canary Islands and, during this time, it has operated 928 sailings between the two islands, carrying 179,000 passengers and 57,146 vehicles.
Fred. Olsen Express Fleet Director Juan Ignacio Liaño explained that resuming this route between the ports of La Estaca and Los Cristianos was a major milestone for the company. He added that the data from the first year of operation reflects the positive reception and the trust that Canarians place in the company for both business and leisure travel. In total, during 2025 Fred. Olsen Express’s freight service moved 1,670,000 lanemetres of cargo, transporting 138,600 vehicles and a total volume of 1,200,000 tonnes.
