Grimaldi launches a new line between Spain and Morocco
Ro-roAfter having strengthened the Savona-Barcelona-Tangier line by deploying a third ro-ro unit (the EUROCARGO SALERNO), Grimaldi Group was determined to launch a new link between Italy and Morocco.
The new line will replace the recently cancelled Livorno-Barcelona-Tangier line.
The Savona-Barcelona cargo link (with possible transhipment to Tangier) has become Grimaldi's strategic line: it was inaugurated by the shipping company in 2012 by deploying a first Eurocargo-class unit and progressively strengthened with the EUROCARGO SALERNO, capable of 140 trailers.
The line's success induced Grimaldi to inaugurate the Savona-Barcelona passenger line in May 2015 by deploying ro-pax FLORENCIA (1,000 passengers, 170 cars and 2,250 lane metres), built in 2004.
The passenger service only lasted six months, being disrupted in late 2015.
As from October 7, the CRUISE SMERALDA, 1,500 passengers and 550 cars, offers a thrice-weekly return trip from Savona to Barcelona, to continue on a return trip from Catalonia to Tangier once a week.
