Gotlandsbolaget posts wider Q1 loss as depreciation and project costs weigh on seasonal low
FinanceSweden's oldest passenger shipping company, Gotlandsbolaget, reported a wider loss for the first quarter of 2026, with the seasonally weak period further pressured by higher depreciation on its newly upgraded Oslo–Copenhagen tonnage and elevated project activity.
Group revenue rose to SEK 621.6 million, up from SEK 608.6 million in the same period last year, driven primarily by Go Nordic Cruiseline, where NORDIC PEARL and NORDIC CROWN were partly out of service for dockings during Q1 2025. Costs rose to SEK 795.5 million from SEK 759.7 million, lifting the adjusted operating loss to SEK 192.7 million, compared with SEK 177.3 million a year earlier. Net profit after tax landed at a loss of SEK 144.0 million, an improvement on the SEK 225.2 million loss in Q1 2025, helped by a SEK 49.6 million positive financial net from unrealised currency gains.
Destination Gotland's revenue eased slightly to SEK 362.3 million, with passenger volumes down 3.3 percent to 175,000 after severe weather forced cancellations around New Year. Freight volumes, however, rose 6.8 percent. Go Nordic Cruiseline lifted revenue to SEK 251.3 million and carried 138,300 passengers, up 3.2 percent year-on-year.
CEO Björn Nilsson highlighted continued strategic expansion, pointing to the agreement signed on 9 April to acquire 30 percent of Nordic Ferry Infrastructure for approximately EUR 510 million, alongside Interogo Infrastructure and Lægernes Pension. Construction of the catamaran GOTLAND HORIZON X began in February, with delivery scheduled for the second half of 2028. The board proposes no dividend for 2025, against SEK 20.30 per share the previous year. Equity stood at SEK 5,276.4 million and the equity ratio at 79.5 percent.
