NORDIC PEARL will still be taken out of service for general maintenance from 4 to 8 January. The remaining dry-dock period, covering larger projects, has been moved to November 2027 to free up capacity during the peak ski weeks.

"We're feeling the growing pressure on the ski season, so we've taken the logical step and moved a large part of the dry-dock period so we can increase capacity. In concrete terms, that means we can offer 14 extra sailings in January — for all the Danes who want to travel outside the holidays and take advantage of the good deals you can find there," says Kevin Helsinghof, VP Sales & Marketing at Go Nordic Cruiseline.

He adds that interest in the ski season has been building over the past two seasons.

Nordic destinations dominate Danish ski travel

Figures from Danmarks Skiforbund, the Danish Ski Federation, put the number of Danes who went skiing in the 2025/2026 season at 570,000. Of these, around 350,000 travelled north to Norway and Sweden, while some 220,000 headed to Alpine destinations further south.

"Norway and Sweden are ideal family destinations. The driving distances are relatively short, snow reliability is high, and there are plenty of family-friendly slopes," says Kenneth Bøggild, Secretary General of Danmarks Skiforbund.

He points to the overnight crossing as a factor in the sea route's appeal for families.

"Instead of many hours behind the wheel through winter weather, the family can eat, sleep and wake up rested in Oslo — and be on the slopes that very same afternoon. You're almost given half a ski day for free, without having to drive through the night or add an extra overnight stay," Bøggild says.

Go Nordic Cruiseline cites snow cover from early winter into spring, family-oriented slopes and a favourable exchange rate as the main drivers behind Danish demand for Norwegian ski destinations.
