Thanks to the strategic position of the port of Annaba, the connection will serve not only the Algerian market but also the surrounding regions of the eastern Maghreb via onward land transfers, turning Annaba into a hub for both passenger and freight flows between Europe and North Africa. On board, passengers will find services tailored to the North African market, including halal cuisine, a prayer room and dedicated spaces for families travelling together.

The new line marks a further step in the investment GNV has committed to the Algerian market. Following its entry in 2025 with the Sète–Algiers and Sète–Béjaïa routes, the company is now strengthening the trade with direct links to Italy, expanding capacity, frequencies and ports served. Local operations are handled together with AFLT Maritime, the company's official partner for support and management of routes between Europe and Algeria.

GNV chief executive Matteo Catani said the new route continues the growth path begun in Algeria last year, a market that has met the company's expectations in terms of passenger and freight traffic. He added that GNV had decided to reinforce its commitment with a new direct connection because it believes in the country's long-term potential, and would continue to invest in fleet, frequencies and dedicated services to respond more precisely to the needs of the North African market.
