Friedrich Norden is the new managing director of Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven
The shareholders of the shipyard, Rönner Group, and Gustav Zech Stiftung appoint Friedrich Norden as the further managing director of Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven, effective as of 1 December 2022.
He will act as further managing director for the traditional shipyard together with Thorsten Rönner. Carsten Sippel is leaving the company to take on new professional challenges.
Friedrich Norden, previously project manager at Lloyd Werft, has spent his entire career with the traditional shipyard from the very beginning – with a short stint in teaching. He was able to participate in quite a few ups and downs of the company.
He initially trained as an industrial mechanic at Lloyd Werft from 1989 - 1991, followed by a two-year course of studies in mechanical engineering as well as teacher studies and studies of metal technology. He graduated as a vocational schoolteacher with the 2nd state examination.
In 2002, he returned to Lloyd Werft, where he started out as an estimator in the project department and became project manager for large newbuilding and conversions from 2006 onwards. All four dock ships of the "Combi Dock" series between 2005 and 2010 were built under Norden's management. In 2011, he was project manager for conversion of the BLUE GIANT dock ship into the offshore special purpose ship OIG GIANT II. Since then, he has also managed many conversions of cruise ships at Lloyd Werft, such as the AMADEA and ALBATROS by Phoenix Reisen.
In April 2012, he became head of purchasing of the shipyard. He also held power of attorney since 2013. During that time, he was acting project manager for the large offshore newbuilding CEONA AMAZON.
Since the end of 2014, Norden was head of the project department, and last also project manager for the world-renowned and award-winning newbuilding yacht project SOLARIS.
Friedrich Norden thus has acquired very good knowledge in the individual shipyard departments with its currently about 220 employees over a long period of time. His new function as managing director is also continuing a family tradition, as his grandfather Friedrich "Fiedel" Norden was already the shipyard's managing director during the NDL shipyard operation for several years until his retirement in 1976. His son Friedrich was project manager at Lloyd Werft until his sudden death in 1994, among other things essentially involved in the large NORWAY and QE 2 conversion projects. Son Friedrich is now continuing his family's series in the 3rd generation in becoming managing director of Lloyd Werft.
"I am looking forward to the challenges and projects ahead for me with Lloyd Werft and would like to thank the shareholders for their trust. In spite of the current difficult conditions, I am certain that we will be able to return Lloyd Werft to its old glory. In order to reach this target, we have started again drydock and repair work for all kind of vessels.
Participation in the yacht exhibitions in Monaco and Fort Lauderdale in autumn also had great success with introduction of our new green mega yacht project ALBATROSS, returning positive response from the industry."
Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven GmbH is a shipyard for new building and repairs, operated on a property of 26 hectares in the Kaiserhafen port of Bremerhaven. Founded in 1857 as a workshop of the shipping company Norddeutscher Lloyd, the company is looking back on a diverse history. It performed, among other things, some spectacular repair and conversion orders and ship extensions of ferries and cruisers. Three large dry and floating docks as well as high-performance workshops and logistics areas permit newbuilding and conversion of ships with lengths in excess of 300 m and a draught of up to 11 metres. Successful newbuilding and conversion of large yachts is also part of the shipyard's portfolio.
Following the insolvency of Genting Group, the shipyard has been part of RVV Vermögensverwaltungsgesellschaft mbH (Rönner Group) and the Gustav Zech Stiftung since the spring of 2022.
