Former ferry tycoon dies at age 86

FerryThe death of James B. 'Jim' Sherwood following complications arising from abdominal surgery brings to a close a remarkable and controversial business career that began in early-1960s America as a provider of leasable shipping containers and peaked in the late-1980s as the Chairman and CEO of the sprawling Sea Containers conglomerate, which at different times included a wide variety of ferry operating subsidiaries. But Sherwood’s business empire declined thereafter, weighed down by debt and it imploded in the early-2000s.
