DFDS to trial a Guernsey-Jersey high-speed ferry service
High-speedThe Channel Islands ferry scene has seen a real shake-up this year since the splitting of the services operated from the UK mainland and France to the islands of Guernsey and Jersey, between Brittany Ferries and DFDS, along with the arrival of new passenger-only operated Islands Unlimited. Now, DFDS is to trail a new weekly high-speed inter-island ferry service between Guernsey and Jersey.
The service will launch on 16 June and run until the end of August, operated by DFDS’ fast ferry TARIFA JET, which can carry up to 800 passengers and 175 vehicles. The crossing between St. Peter Port and St. Helier will take 90 minutes.
Brittany Ferries has been running a weekly inter-island service between Guernsey and Jersey since April this year, on Wednesdays, while Islands Unlimited started its passenger-only service on 5 June.
The governments of Guernsey and Jersey have clashed over inter-island services after choosing different ferry operators on their respective ferry connections to the UK mainland and France, reducing the travel link between Guernsey and Jersey.
DFDS’s TARIFA JET currently maintains the route between Jersey and the French port of Saint Malo.
