The downturn was broad-based: North Sea volumes fell below 2024 levels due to softness on most routes; Mediterranean figures lagged amid reduced capacity in response to heightened ferry competition; Channel volumes weakened from a slowdown in the broader Dover Strait corridor; and Strait of Gibraltar volumes declined following capacity adjustments. In contrast, Baltic Sea volumes edged above 2024. Over the last 12 months (November 2024–October 2025), total freight lane metres rose 1.0% to 41.5 million from 41.1 million in the prior period, but fell 1.5% on an adjusted basis.

Passenger trends were similarly muted, with October numbers down 5.5% to 331,000 on an adjusted basis (and -27.8% unadjusted), driven by lower Channel volumes—particularly in the coach segment—despite gains in the Strait of Gibraltar. Adjusted YTD passenger growth was -4.3%, while car volumes slipped 2.3% adjusted for the month. For the rolling 12 months, passengers totaled 5.3 million, down 18.0% from 6.5 million the year before (-4.0% adjusted).

Adjustments account for the sale of the Oslo-Frederikshavn-Copenhagen route at end-October 2025, exit from Tarifa-Tanger Ville in early May 2025, and addition of Jersey routes from late March 2025.
