DFDS expands capacity on Rosslare-Dunkirk route with third vessel

FerryFrom September, DFDS will offer seven weekly roundtrips on the Rosslare-Dunkirk route by adding a third vessel to the route to provide increased capacity for freight operators and more travel options for passengers during the holiday season.

DFDS will significantly strengthen its Rosslare–Dunkirk route this September with the addition of two extra weekly roundtrips. The third vessel will join ATHENA SEAWAYS and VICTORIA SEAWAYS, which already operate on the route.

Growing demand for direct transport links between Ireland and continental Europe continues to drive the need for additional capacity. To meet this demand, DFDS is expanding its schedule to offer a total of seven weekly roundtrips, providing greater flexibility for freight hauliers and more travel options for holidaymakers seeking convenient, direct access to mainland Europe.

“We are committed to supporting Ireland’s freight economy and enhancing connectivity between Ireland and continental Europe. Bringing a third vessel into service on this route will strengthen our offering, providing more capacity, improved schedule choice, and the reliability our customers expect from DFDS”, says Owen Hides, Route Director, DFDS.

Glenn Carr, Director, Commercial Business Units for Iarnród Éireann, Port Authority for Rosslare Europort said: “We are delighted to strengthen our partnership with DFDS on the Rosslare to Dunkirk route.  The expansion to seven services each way weekly underlines the growth and success of the service since its launch in 2021 and will be a boost to trade and tourism regionally and nationally.  At a time of challenges to global supply chains, it reaffirms Rosslare Europort's status as Ireland's Gateway to Europe."

Since its launch in 2021, the Rosslare–Dunkirk service has built a strong reputation among freight operators for its dependable performance and efficient operations. Passenger volumes have also risen steadily, with more Irish travellers opting for direct routes to France and enjoy a smooth journey to destinations across mainland Europe.

The route enables passengers to bring their own vehicles - including cars, caravans and campervans - making it an ideal choice for families, touring travellers, and those planning extended holidays across France, Belgium, Germany, and beyond.

“The expansion of this service reflects continued growth in both trade and tourism between Ireland and Europe. With more sailings and increased capacity, we are well positioned to support customers during the busy autumn and winter season,” added Owen Hides.

The updated schedule with the additional roundtrips will commence from mid- September.
