CORSICA Linea and Elyse Energy team up to accelerate decarbonisation and launch Corsica–Mainland Green Corridor
FerryCORSICA Linea and Elyse Energy, a French supplier of sustainable fuels, have signed a memorandum of understanding to boost e-methanol production and develop the Corsica–Mainland Maritime Green Corridor.
CORSICA Linea targets a 40% CO2 emissions cut by 2030, enhanced by shore power and energy efficiency measures. Sustainable fuels like e-methanol – ideal for Mediterranean routes – will slash both greenhouse gases and atmospheric emissions at sea and in port. The partners will explore tech adaptations for CORSICA Linea's fleet and map a roadmap for the first French green maritime corridor, integrating e-methanol into Fos-sur-Mer's territorial strategy.
The NeoCarb project at Marseille Fos will store and distribute Elyse Energy's e-methanol from 2030, fuelling CORSICA Linea's ships and scaling production.
Elyse Energy's flagship eM-Rhône project, on the Roches-Roussillon platform with Lafarge France, aims for 150,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually. Backed by EUR 115 million from the European Innovation Fund and French guarantees, it awaits environmental approval, with investment decision in 12 months and operations by 2029.
NeoCarb, a sustainable fuels hub at the Mediterranean–Rhône–Saône nexus, includes:
- Phase 1 (NeoCarb Log): Ready platform for storage/distribution; environmental application filed end-2025.
- Phase 2 (NeoCarb Prod): Large-scale e-methanol production units.
Supported by Sud Region and Rising Sud funding, NeoCarb will decarbonise CORSICA Linea's fleet from 2030, linking eM-Rhône production to local supply at Fos-sur-Mer for sovereign sustainable maritime fuels.
Ludovic Izoird, Executive Managing Director, Elyse Energy:
“With CORSICA Linea, we advance a French e-methanol chain, proving maritime decarbonisation is real. eM-Rhône and NeoCarb show territories driving the transition from Rhône Valley to Mediterranean.
”Pierre-Antoine Villanova, Managing Director, CORSICA Linea:
“We champion France's first Corsica–Mainland green corridor as a showcase of French tech excellence for public service. With EUR 500 million invested in fleet renewal over four years, partnering with Elyse Energy boosts new energy bunkering hubs for sustainable shipping.”
