Climate compensation proved popular for Wasaline
FerryAt the beginning of June, Wasaline introduced the option to offset the carbon footprint of their journeys, and the interest has been significant, especially among Swedish travellers. The proceeds from the climate compensation go entirely towards powering the ship with biogas. Since the initiative began, over 1,500 people have chosen to compensate for their travel emissions.
"We are pleased that so many have chosen to offset their emissions and, in doing so, contributed to making our already environmentally friendly ship even more sustainable. Thanks to this, we have been able to carry out more departures using biogas," says Wasaline's CEO, Peter Ståhlberg.
There is also considerable interest among freight customers, but so far only a few have been willing to pay for their carbon offsets and thus be able to operate entirely emission-free. Wasaline aims to reduce its carbon footprint by at least 5% annually and is striving to achieve climate-neutral operations in Kvarken by 2030.
