Cargo record for Wasaline following biogas day introduction
FerryWasaline started operating with certified biogas one day a week as of 13 October. The experimentation increased the total amount of cargo bookings for the entire week 41 and broke this year’s cargo record. When compared to the same period in 2022, the amount of transported cargo units grew by 33 percent.
All Friday departures of AURORA BOTNIA will be climate neutral until Christmas. The interest in sustainable maritime transports is growing.
Wasaline will cover the extra costs on behalf of its customers during Green Corridor Fridays. The aim of the pilot project is to measure the interest of cargo owners and industries to use more sustainable methods of transport. So far, the response has been positive.
“AURORA BOTNIA is the world’s most environmentally friendly ferry today, but our efforts to reduce our climate footprint continue. Right now, we are establishing partnerships for next year in order to share fuel costs and to continue and even expand the use of certified biogas”, says Peter Ståhlberg, Managing Director at Wasaline.
Wasaline has already reduced its CO2 emissions by 22 percent this year compared to last year. The use of biogas will further reduce CO2 emissions of AURORA BOTNIA. With four trips on Fridays, 18 percent of the total weekly departures will be operated with biogas.
