Bluebridge sells surplus ferry to Egyptian interests
FerryNew Zealand’s Bluebridge (StraitNZ) has sold STRAIT FERONIA. The buyer is the Cairo-based Pan Marine Shipping Co. The 1997-built “Visentini” RoPax departed Wellington on 6 October under its new name PAN LILY, bound for Singapore with an ETA of 22 October.
STRAIT FERONIA became surplus on Bluebridge’s Cook Strait route between New Zealand’s North and South Islands after the company purchased STENA LIVIA - also a “Visentini” RoPax - from Stena RoRo earlier this year.
Going forward, Bluebridge’s fleet will consist of two sister ships: LIVIA (ex. STENA LIVIA) and CONNEMARA, built in 2008 and 2007 respectively. Both belong to the same Visentini generation (Mark I/Flex Bow) with a capacity of 2,255 lanemetres and 500 passengers.
Pan Marine Shipping already owns three vessels: one container ship and two offshore supply vessels and is active in ship management and liner agency services in the region. PAN LILY has six identical sisters (“Visentini” Mark I/first-generation superstructure), one of which – PELAGOS - was sold in February this year by French operator La Méridionale to Egyptian company UME (United Marine Egypt). It now operates under the name PELAGOS EXPRESS in UME’s network between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
