Baleària recorded an 11% increase in freight volumes - fresh products now account for 35% of its cargo
FerryRefrigerated products, such as fruits and vegetables, make up 35% of the cargo transported by Baleària, a volume that consolidates the shipping company as a key player in the logistics distribution of fresh and perishable foods in the regions where it operates. Refrigerated cargo thereby represents the largest share by type of goods for Baleària, although this varies by route.
In the Balearic Islands, its main market, refrigerated cargo accounts for 35%, while in Morocco it represents 25%. “Our fleet is adapted to the needs of those who value speed and reliability - key factors for maximizing efficiency in the transport of perishables,” says Maximiliano Bermejo, Baleària’s Freight Director.
Overall, Baleària recorded an 11% increase in total freight volumes between January and August 2025, compared with the same period last year. The Balearic Islands remain its main market, followed by connections with Morocco and Algeria, where cargo volumes have also grown thanks to the opening of new routes to Algiers and Oran from Barcelona. The vast majority of Baleària’s freight capacity is based on RoPax tonnage.
